De uns anos pra cá decidi me aproximar do mundo da animação. Não como consumidor (coisa que sempre fui), mas sim como um “fazedor” de animações. Aprendi a valorizar cada minuto de animação que assisto! É muito trabalho envolvido para fazer a “magia” acontecer.

A few years ago I decided to get closer to the world of animation. Not as a consumer (which I have always been), but as a animation maker. I learned to value every minute of animation I watch! It’s a lot of work involved to make the “magic” happen.

Diariamente estudo um pouco sobre o tema. Tenho me debruçado sobre os princípios da animação. Confesso que tenho estudado enquanto produzo algo, naquele esquema de “trocar a roda enquanto o carro está em movimento”. Aprender de acordo com a demanda de cada projeto têm funcionado pra mim até o momento.

Everyday I’ve been studing a little bit on the subject. I’ve been fosusing on animation’s principles. I confess I’ve studied while producing something. Learning new stuff based on the demand of each project has worked for me so far.

Minha entrada no “mundo da animação” teve um impacto interessante no meu dia a dia enquanto artista visual: me fez melhorar o meu foco, já que o processo geralmente exige um olhar muito detalhado para a física da coisa toda. Se você errar um detalhe em algum frame e continuar avançando, em algum momento você terá que retornar para a origem do problema e isso toma tempo. Por isso, concentração é super importante. Outra coisa em que a animação está me fazendo bem foi a necessidade de voltar para os fundamentos do desenho. Simplificar sempre ajuda. Têm sido bom exercitar a capacidade de síntese através de formas geométricas, em especial. Todo esse processo já influencia outras atividades minhas que envolvam desenho.

My entry into the “animation world” had an interesting impact on my daily life as an visual artist: it made me improve my focus, as the process usually requires a very detailed look at the physics of the whole thing. If you miss a detail in any frame and keep moving forward, at some point you will have to go back to the source of the problem and it takes a lot of time. That’s why focus is very important. Another thing animation is doing me good at is the need to go back to the drawing’s fundamentals. Simplifying always helps. It has been good to exercise the capacity for synthesis through geometric shapes, in particular. This whole process is already influencing other activities of mine that involves drawing.

Tenho misturado animação quadro a quadro e algumas automações oferecidas por softwares como After Effects e Animate. Penso que assim tiro o que cada processo tem de melhor a oferecer. Para a parte quadro a quadro gravito em torno de três pogramas: Krita, Animate e TV Paint. Tenho me esforçado para focar em um deles apenas. A bola da vez é o Krita que além de ser gratuito, possui muitos recursos mais que que suficientes para o que preciso. Em breve pretendo inserir o Blender no meu fluxo de trabalho e ver de perto as possibilidades que podem rolar. Estou curioso pra ver o desenrolar disso tudo.

I’ve been mixing frame by frame animation and some automations offered by software like After Effects and Animate. I think that this way I get the best that each process has to offer. For the frame-by-frame part I gravitate towards three programs: Krita, Animate and TV Paint. I’ve been trying hard to focus on just one of them. The ball of the moment is Krita which, in addition to being free, has many more than enough resources for what I need. Soon I intend to insert Blender into my workflow. I’m curious to see how it all unfolds.

Todas essas imagens são de projetos mais antigos, só para ilustrar a variedade de softwares e processos que tenho utilizado. Em outros momentos pretendo dar uma mergulhada mais específica em cada um deles e contar pra vocês qual foi minha viagem em cada um deles. Só queria refletir mesmo sobre bem que a animação está fazendo pra mim enquanto artista visual e contador de histórias em constante aprendizado. At other times I intend to delve more specifically into each one of them and tell you about my journey in each one of them. I just wanted to reflect on the good that animation is doing for me as a visual artist and storyteller in constant learning.
